Wonderful Counselor

The phrase “Jesus & Therapy ” has become a popular saying these days.  What does it mean? Basically, a person who ascribes to this school of thought believes in Jesus and recognizes the benefits of good therapy too. It does not have to be one or the other, both work together. I am one of those people!

Being a Christian doesn’t mean you cannot attend therapy and going to therapy doesn’t mean that you do not believe in Jesus. They are not opposing forces. On the contrary, the concept of Jesus & Therapy has been with us since Isaiah 9:6“Wonderful Counselor.”

In the previous post, And He Shall Be Called, we learned there is so much in a name. Wonderful – Jesus. Counselor – therapy. There is nothing we go through that we cannot take to Him (1 Peter 5:6-7). He alone has all the benefits of a human counselor but with divine perspective and power. I’ll say it again, there is SO MUCH in that name!

This time of year can bring about so many feelings, moods, and attitudes. So if you find yourself on an emotional rollercoaster this season, remember the Wonderful Counselor is just a prayer away.

Reflection – Mighty God

Think about the biggest challenge you may be facing … Christ is greater!

Note: Mental Health issues can impact anyone, including Christ-followers. No one is exempt. We will talk more about mental health and dispelling myths surrounding it in the near future. In the meantime, if you are considering therapy, talk with your primary care doctor. You can also visit  www.betterhelp.com for online therapy information. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency contact 911.
