For many of us, turning on the news each day is as routine as brushing our teeth. We tune in to be informed of current events in our city, state, country, and world. Yet with each headline, breaking rapport and exclusive, we allow our minds to be flooded with the good, bad, and ugly this world holds. Our minds, emotions, and spirits are left vulnerable to the effects of what we’ve seen and heard.
We can easily find ourselves spiraling quickly down a rabbit hole of negative thinking, speaking, and actions if we are not careful. It can be difficult to look at the condition of our world and find anything decent or noble in humanity. However, all is not lost. In verses 1-2 of Psalm 1, we find guidance for living an honorable life.
- Delight is in the law of the Lord – Find joy and happiness in the Word of God.
- Meditate on his law day and night – Focus our mind daily on the Word of God
Do you see the pattern? What we think about shapes what we believe. What we believe comes through in what we do. Despite the world around us, we do not have to allow it to infiltrate and corrupt the spirit within us (Romans 12:2).
As Christ-followers, we are to be His image-bearers on earth. When we saturate ourselves in God’s word on a daily basis, we then open ourselves to be empowered to live out the Word on a daily basis. We become the living reflection of God. Others can see the nobility of God in His people, then honor the God of the people.
Prayer: Lord I thank You and give You the honor due to Your name. Help me to keep my mind focused on Your Word and living a life of integrity that pleases You.
